Default Compatability questions

I am doing a cam swap on my 2000 4.8 and want to make sure I don't miss any of the little insurance stuff for down the road. I thought I knew some things I wanted until I started buying stuff now I am questioning myself a lot
So lets start with the easy stuff.
Ls2 timing chain this should fit fine right? I don't want to buy sprockets if its not 100% needed
Head gaskets.... Some sites say that 12498544 only fits 02 and up I thought they should all be the same?
Is the timing chain damper seal necessary?
Oil pickup tube oring? Red or blue or not necessary?
I know I'm forgetting something but I will add later.

Well I guess I answered my own question they switched from graphite to MLS that year but both fit. So I will be going MLS. I am getting conflicting answers on the timing chain.

Yes the LS2 timing chain is a direct swap and your factory sprockets are just fine, no need to replace them.

The 99-01 heads had a recessed notch and originally came with graphite gaskets. The part number is 12457116

Or you can use a Victor 54441 head gasket which is the newer style MLS style but will retro fit the 99-01 heads.

You mean the front cover gasket or the crank seal? Both should be replaced.

Timing chain is direct swap.

Are you getting the heads worked on? Cheap hp for some minor work

Since your engine is from a 2000, you will need to check your heads for the "notch". If you have the notch, you will not be able to run MLS gaskets. Here's a pic for reference.

I thought the oil pump has to come off to replace the timing chain? If so YES replace the o-ring. I put a red one in mine.

You mean Some of the heads had the notch. Not all.

Correct. Some had the notch, and some did not. The OP needs to check for the notch if he wants to use the better MLS gaskets.
