4L80E.. Are the bellhousings the same?
Will the older 4L80E's bolt up to an LS1? Or is the bolt patern different?
I found a 93 4L80E out of a 3/4 Chevy and want to make sure it will mate to a 5.7 LS1.

Bellhousings are the same but the linkage is the old type. It this is a custom project then you'll probably be doing something custom anyway. Also, the 93 unit will have both cooling line up in front. Early units have a problem with the Boost Valve sticking at full line pressure - the oil pump in the 4L80-E is so powerful it can make enough hydraulic pressure to split the case apart if that malfunction occurs. Trans-Go shift kits for the 4L80-E come with a pressure relief valve to prevent damage if it happens.
You'll need a flexplate and spacer from a late model 6.0 truck to make that work, as I understand it.

It will mount up but you will have to get a dust shield from a 99-present 4L80E since the dust shield mounts directly to the engine. The older (99 and ealier) trannies do not have the very top mounting hole on the bellhousing, and the LSx engine engines don't have one of the mounting holes (GM took one bolt out and installed it in a very hard place to get too), I think the top mount replace one of the lowers but not fore sure. I think you can get your engine drilled and tap for the older style bellhousing, the bose is there but not drilled.

You will distort the bore on cylinder #8 if you use that mounting boss. Thats why they replaced it with the top bolt.

If you notice the crank flange to bellhousing flange distance is pretty close on these engines. On the Gen II/III there was a larger offset and a longer distance between the bellhousing flange and the cylinder bores.
