How to Remove Clutch from Fan...??
hey guys... 1999 5.3....just came in from the shop...I am installing efans on my truck..but I cant seem to get the dam cllutch off the fan...do you know what I referring too? The plastic fan is bolted to a clutch, which swivels on the pulley. There is a large nut kidna thing between the clutch and the pulley..and I still cant get the dam thing offf???? Anybody know how to remove this thing?

Get a long pipe wrench and place it on the nut, and whack it really hard counter clockwise. Try tapping on the nut with a hammer and it may help breaking it loose.

the clutch..
comes off with the fan. The big nut in the back is what you need to loosen. Spray a little lube on the nut. Put a pipe wrench on it and hit it with a hammer. It should come off.

Yah I ahve so far used both the giant wrench with hammer..nothing...the pulley just spins with it, and I am now using an air chisel..it is slowly turning...but it hast turned enough to break it lose...proably almsot one full 360 turna dn its still on tight..WTF!!!! my truck is an 99 with 60,000KM never seen winter!!! every bolt jsut comes right off..this fuckign nut is pounded right the **** on!!! errrr...keep yah updated.

yep...4 hours later....still on...did about 1-2 full turns witht eh air chisel..thign still wont come off....I really ahve no clue what to do....I dont ahve autozone in Canada..so I guess Im gonna have to make a tool or soem bullshit to get the thign off....I reallly dont get it..LOw km truck and this thing is fused on...

You could try having somebody apply pressure to the belt to make it tighter and hopefully help hold the pulley in place while you chisel. I used a chain wrench and a piece of old belt wrapped around the pulley to hold the pulley in place while I whacked the wrench on the nut with a hammer. (the old belt around the pulley is to keep the chain wrench from marring the pulley).
