Default Cam Only Truck. What do you think?

Comp Cam 510/.510 212/221, 116

Cam will go in a 5.3 Ext cab Silverado. Best ET to date with Nelson tune & UPD Cold Air & Hooker Muffler 15.1 @ 93 mph

I am getting 18 mpg right now with my truck & I want to retain my Gas Milage if not gain.... I am wanting to run some Mid 14 sec 1/4 mile times. My buddy is selling the cam for $100 bucks. So this is a steal for a cam for me.

Also going to add the following along with my cam

Cam 510/.510 212/221, 116
Elec fans
Asp Pully
Ported Tb
Pacesetter Longtubes
Stock Cats
Stock Converter & transl
All work will be done by Nelson Performance & tuned

Thanks guy
Seb

That cam is pretty weak. You might as well run a z06 cam. It has slightly less duration, almost equal LSA but way more lift than the baby .510 lift. I just bought a zo6 cam for $70 too. spend another $100-150 and buy a good used cam off here or ls1tech or just go with a z06 cam. That's my .02

I thought so too. I just wanted to see what others thought. I had a chace to get this cam for $100.. But I thought the specs seemed pretty small. What would be a good cam choice for my truck with stock heads & Intake you think?

I am lost when it come's to choosing cams for these 5.3 motors

Since you are so caught up with gas mileage(for reasons I don't know). Get a something like a 210/218 vince cam. It has much more agressive lift(.550 compared to the .510) and won't kill your gas mileage at all.

Just know also that a cam isn't going to kill your gas mileage. I have a 224/224 in a 5.3L extended cab and I've gotten as good as 21 on the highway and I average around 17.5 with quite a bit of standing traffic driving.

I'm looking into cams as well but right now I know absolutely nothing about them. So, I'm researching before i shop seriously but how much would an install cost about?

So the cam really doesn't affect your milage. This is my Daily driver. I like to have some power still though, I have a 2000 Formula I Drag Race,,,, I was also looking at the TR220 cam.

How much can you expect to gain with a cam?

If you go anything much larger though, you are going to definitely want to upgrade to a higher stall torque converter--possibly so even with that cam.
