Who actually has a 5.3 bored to 5.7 and how much cylinder wall thickness is left?
Thanks
Jeff

I am in the process right now, my 4.8 is at the machine shop right now. These blocks were designed to be able to make a 5.7 out of them.

There's plenty left, and there should be no cooling issues, hope you're ready to spend some $$$

I was going to, however it proved too expensive. I couldn't find a piston with enough dish for stock bottom end.

Hi by the way, I'm the new guy!

Why not use stock LS1 pistons and rods? I paid $100 for my pistons and rods and $75 for a 5.3 crank. It is costing me $160 to have the 4.8 bored and new cam bearings installed. Not that expensive if you buy good used parts IMO

I agree... there's no reason that a flat-top piston won't work.

Mines working just fine with boost. No cooling problems either and I'm still using the stock T-stat

Very common mod, If you need pistons for this, Rich@ WCCH can get these for you in A day or three depending on rod/piston combo you are going to use.

What's up REX!!
btw guys this guy builds engines for a living and did a 5.3 to a 5.7 for Blownchevy aka Brian at JPA. Apparently it's one of the cheapest block mods to make instead of swapping int a 6L or something.

I'll be doing something similar. Putting an iron 408 in the Camaro. Then gonna go ahead and rebuild the 5.7L LS1 and put it in the truck (after some milling and slight love to the heads). Gonna leave it basically stock cam because it's my TRUCK and not my performace vehicle. But I see no reason to leave a perfectly fine LS1 sitting around when it would fit just fine.

Am I correct that I'm fine as long as I just use a truck crank and truck accessories?
