1979 C30 - Small Block
Hi guys,
My truck came with a little 350 according to the VIN. When I got it here in Michigan I was looking for a work truck for around town. It's from Texas so it's decently solid but not pretty.
I had the truck for less than a month when I knew the engine was messed up. Diagosed it finally down to a wiped cam lobe. I ordered up the parts to fix it - fresh heads with new valve springs, a small cam and lifters (210 - 216 @ .050 duration) and had about $400 bucks into these parts when the harmonic balancer flew off while driving and broke off the end of the crank....
I paid $1300 for the truck. Now I can't get rid of it, I have too much invested to get my money back.
I had an LT1 motor I bought off Craiglist for $400 bucks. I got almost everything including radiator, wiring harness, and transmission. I was told the transmission didn't downshift properly and that although the motor ran great, it had been sitting for a while and the Optispark distributor was suspect.
I decided to put in the LT1 since it was close to running - I intended on swapping in the computer and fuel injection until I found out how much trouble people where having with the Optispark. The truck also came to me with headers and I was going to need to add o2 sensors and what not, along with some type of speed sensor (I have the 4 speed manually transmission in the truck).
I ended up putting on a carbed intake and sticking in an HEI. I'm working now to convert it over to e85 since I can get it easily in my area. I'll post some updates if anyone is interested.
My heater box was missing so I filled it with some spray foam until next spring. Looks terrible but I had no replacement and it's going to be cold soon...
