I remember reading a tech article about the Duramax engine in 99, this article was a few years old (written during the testing phase). The engine was putting out 1,000 ft/lbs, the problem they were having was the Allison tranny could not hold up to the torque of the motor. Some of the component changed on the engine was the ECM, fuel injectors, and turbo.

Wow, more power for the ALUMINUM headed diesel...
That sure will help reliability....

Tinker with that computer more.

But rumor has it if Dodge re-ups they are currently working on a 6.7 QSB I-6 fitment for Dodge Ram trucks.

every engine in testing puts down more power than they release it with. until the engine has been out for a few years they won't be releasing it with any more power than it takes to top the other competitors numbers. the allison could be made to handle that power reliably easier than the max could that boost level.

as for the reliability comment on the aluminum heads, i work for a chevy dealer. since i've been here we've had the heads off one duramax and i've been here since before they were released by far. our dealership also sells dodge products. there has been a low failure rate with the noisemaker also, but they have more trans failures in one week than we have in a month.

i'd rather have a silverado of the three, but in every test for the last few years the powerstroke has been the big dog for stock trucks.
