I have hijacked blown06's screen name for the moment. I am his brother, and I am considering buying at new gmc/chevrolet 4x4 duramax. I was just curious to see what kinda of gas mileage you guys are getting with a truck similar to the one I described.

The guy I work with has an LMM in a CCLB 4x4 3500hd srw. I see on his screen an AVG econ of 13.7, but there is always something in the bed, and half the time we have a trailer on...

he isnt lucky, he just has a pre-emissions truck. my dad has an 03 LB7 duramax 2wd ecsb and gets a consistent 20-21 mpg on the highway at 70-75 mph here on flat roads of FL. that is with a big tuner that makes 400 rwhp and a LOAD of torque

It's kind of expensive i hear but if you remove that new particulater filter or whatever it's called in the exhaust i've read of MPG increases of like 7-8+. I also read the Fords respond the best to that mod, but that TT 6.4 is garbage anyway.

Am I better off buying an older truck, than a newer one? I have a 2000 gmc 2500 with a 6.0L and I can't even get 300 miles to a tank of gas driving 70-75 on the highway in TX. I am averaging 13.5 mpg on the highway right now with this piece of ****!

You can actually order a dpf delete kit for pretty cheap (few hundred dollars plus install) which will increase your mileage considerably. The reason the mileage is so bad on the LMM's is the regeneration mode the truck goes into to burn off the extra soot. Without that, you should be golden. If you are worried about passing emissions (depending on how strict they are where you live), you might be better off looking for a 06-07 classic lbz. I have two friends with lbz's that are getting over 20mpg rolling on 35's.
