Default 21+ gas mileage?!?!

Whats the key to all these guys with diesels getting 21+ mpg? A buddy of mine has an 05 3500 4x4 silverado that he drives everyday, and he wants some better gas mileage. Right now it's bone stock.

A tune, or programmer, intake and exhaust will help.

a good tuner and open up that exhaust. Im runnign the PPE Xcelerator tuner set on the 90 hp tune and with 33" tires running 75-80 on the interstate Im getting 17-19 ---- Im about to put my stock tires back on and see how much of a difference that makes.

Well, I've been experimenting with tuning two LBZs. One a 2006 CCSB 4x4, he got 19.7 (cruising at 78-cruise control on)with it on a 250 mile trip, tuned by me, stock tires, stock exhaust, finger sticky mod, EGR block off plate. The next is a LBZ 2007, EGR block off, finger sticky, 4" O/R !cat pipe with no muffler exhaust in a RCLB 2wd truck and he gets about 24 mpg about 55 mph and 21 at 65 mph (instant mpg readings). Still working on both of them trying different things but hope this give y'all and idea of what's up.

The only way you can get correct fuel mileage with a programmer or tune is to hand calculate.

Yes I know that...I've been doing this a while...lol. That's why I put a 250 mile trip b/c he filled up once he got there and hand calculated it and that's why I said instant/average on the RCLB.
