2500 Gas v Diesel
#11
Resale and trade in value is always higher for a diesel. The new gassers mpg is better than used to be but mpg while towing will not come close to the dmax. You can throw efi live on it get another 125 horse and keep same fuel milage.

ive been looking for a while now and the newer dielsels dont seem to be getting the mileage the olders ones got due to all the emmissions crap... Ive been looking for a lbz but i havent had any luck... plus i still dont like the 07- trucks

The diesels drive much nicer. Just smooth, effortless torque delivery. I love driving the Duramax/Allison 6-speed trucks. The price premium on a new one vs a gasser is a real downer though, coming in around $8k. If you can get into a 2006-2010, that would be the route I would go. Personally I was looking at a 2006-2010 Duramax 2500 or a brand-new 6.2 NHT 1500, and I ended up going with the new truck for the much lower weight and the brand-new rig at the same price as 5-year-old, 70k-mile DMax/Allison trucks. Honestly, I was just buying based on what I enjoy driving though, not necessarily based on what would save me money or be high for resale or whatever. Whatever vehicle suits me best and does what I want the way I want gets my money; I don't look at cars as an investment, I see them as a purchase that I plan to use up and enjoy.

I would say drive both of them they both can be very good but that diesel will have way more power with any size load. If its for long commutes the diesel will also be better for mileage. I also agree with finding a nice used one with low miles with the options you want and you wont face near the depressiation from driving it off the lot also will have better resale.

I honestly get 22mpg on the highway with my LBZ dmax and about 17 in town. However mines an 06 LBZ with EFI live, exhaust, intake, downpipe and lift pump. I did get 22.6mpg one highway trip before the lift pump. I lost about .5mpg with the lift pump but oh well it was worth it for performance.
Now the newer LML's i don't know how the mileage is going for them, but with more emission crap on them I doubt they will give the numbers I'm getting. If you plan to ditch the DPF and tune it then I bet you will see great gains in the MPG's
