3/4 ton, 6.0, 80e, 3.73 - towing with cam ?
I know that the 212/218 is the "one" of the best bottom end cams with power all over. Does anyone tow with a TR224 . . . or upgraded to the L92 heads, and a matching cam?
I'm looking for an off idle power cam, that can pull a 4K boat, on flat and small hills
Crew cab, 4wd, 3/4 ton, 6.0, 80e, 3.73, 33 MTs, stock muff, cats, manafolds
mods are fans, and drop in K&N, . . . soon to be TransGo HD2 kit. and cooler

Certainly the HD has no problem towing 4000lbs. It should toy with that. But I get the feeling you dont like the sloppy pedal/want more low end. Steve Bryant even runs as small as a 200/208 cam I believe and says his 6.0 tows like a charm. The duration might seem small (even up to the 212/218) but I think the key thing is the added valve lift, it just allows a lot more air into the cylinders.

sounds like you have an answer! lol...
i believe the 224 is far pushing it, especially if you want OFF LINE power.... i think i saw a thread that zippy posted saying that he has put a 222/224 on one of these trucks and it seemed to be a little too big for a stock converter.....even with the L92 heads, i believe gains from the heads would be mid-top gains....
but i know where you can get a 212/218!!!!! lol...

it has no problems off the line. I can get some funny looks when I'm passing people . . . it's the highway speeds. I'm pretty sure that it has more to do with the gearing and big tires. 65 is a sweet spot 70-75, boggs then wants to down shift . . . but 80-85 is crusing . . . but that's not good for trailer bearings, or gas mileage !
I've got a TR224 and a 226/230 . . . and I know of someone that has a low lift 212/218

Do you have the truck street tuned? I want to strap mine down to a mustang dyno and run it at 2000 rpms and bump up the timing until it pings.
I'm hating my truck's highway driving. I run 2100 @ 70 mph. It's got decent acceleration and throttle response with the converter locked, but overall it pisses me off. According to EFI live, it really takes about 30% throttle before the truck gets up and goes. One thing that's holding me off from putting in the 80 I have in the basement is the fact that my gas mileage will go to utter ****. I'll probably be running 2400 rpms @ 70 mph. In your HD, I bet the mileage is dismal. Overall I think the 212/218 would serve you well.

I have ran the 222/224 cam (stock stall), but that was behind a 60e, and not the 80e. Loved it . . . with no issues.
