I just want more gears... the 8100 only spinn to 4800 rpms.. and 34" tires and 4 gears to choose from it would tow a LOT better with more transmission gears... both our denalies have the 6L and its awsome in a stock suv... lol.. nothing like dropping 3 gears at 80 mph when you want to pass some one

The 6LxxE series is really nice with the deep first gear and the taller overdrive than even the 4L60E. Of course, installing one in a pre-07 vehicle can be expensive and a headache. You will have to use both PCM's to control the engine/transmission and the other to run the gauges.
Good luck.

i was interested in this as well but i think im just going to go with the gear vendors overdrive... can split it to an 8 speed or just use the overdrive on 4th and make a 5 speed, either way its only 3000, and bolts in. a bit easier that a 6l90 conversion.
note: the tci was a 4l80, converted to 6 sp, used paddle shifters though...pretty b@d @$$ IMO...

$600 - to have Speartech modify my wiring harness to plug into my truck, run the gauges and operate the A/C.
$200 - purchase of a longer rear driveshaft to fit the shorter 6L80E transmission.
$100 - installation of new U-joints on front drive shaft and have it cut 1" shorter.
$80ish - for two 07+ A/C hoses to accomodate the newer compressor connections. This wasn't needed but I chose to use the new compressor instead of the original one on the engine I took out.
That was it to get it going.
Of course there was the cost of the engine and transmission that I purchased as a package so i can't break the transmission cost down.
I used the 6L80E version.

Hello you all,
I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT Crewcab shortbed 4X2 with the 6.0 Liter and 4L80 transmission and 4.1 gears. I would love to swap in a 6L90 transmission, what parts would I need to make everything work like it should?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
PS. I had a 2003 model just like this with the 6.6 diesel and 3.73 gears, however, I prefer the gas engine (I do no towing whatsoever)...![Icon Confused](https://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/images/smilies2/icon_confused.gif)

Speartech did a Gen IV LS2 6l80 swap in a GMT800. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=401899
No one makes a standalone kit. I called TCI and they said no. And their 6 speed is just a modded 4l80 and is WAY over priced.

The only way to do this is swap out the crank trigger to the 58x one = $$$$. Or swap to a Gen IV motor LY6 or L92. As the TCM in the 6l80/90 needs to talk to a Gen IV ECM for it to work right.
