Default 6.0 slug

I took my ccsb 2500 4x4 with a 6.0 to the track and ran 17.3 @80mph. It's all stock motor just a cai no tune or anything. I was looking for a base line. This is just a tow rig for my rcsb and the family hauler but she needs to run better. I know my 285s don't help. I think it's time to tune this slug.

A tune alone will make a night and day difference. With the mods done to my 05 in my signature it's not the same truck to drive anymore. The factory LQ4 tune is complete rubbish. You could probably put 6 or 7 lbs of boost on it and it still wouldn't blow up. My GTP ( supercharged 3.8) had 17 degrees WOT advance stock..... just like my LQ4 in my 05, lol.

Hey 1994Vmax what is the 08 Air box/fender mod you have listed in your sig? Did a quick search but can't find anything on it.

I just did as the OP did there. The box out of the newer trucks is a direct replacement for my original in my 05. I even reused the stock lid off mine to retain my original decal as the one I had was from an 08 5.3 truck. I cut out the divider bar on the newer box and made it one big opening. I then put the box in place, marked my fender and cut it out to match.

It made the intake louder for sure.... My butt dyno isn't very well calibrated so I can't say whether it's any faster or not. I got the box for nothing and it definitely can't hurt after looking at the tiny opening in the original.

Beyond converter and gears, stepping down to a 3" or 3.5" single after a flowmaster merge might pick it up down low. Pre-dpf era stock 3.5" duramax muffler is mellow, cheap, and flows well. Tune is a huge improvement on all gen III/IV trucks for sure. Depending on your taste, an aftermarket intake tube or whole kit might be annoying while towing. Think chewbacca, but deeper. <-Intake growl

Intake tube and the 08 box is still very quiet... think like stock quiet. In fact my friends 05 6.0 Liter with a full on Air Raid CAI is still quiet..... Mine is under load 24/7 and I don't like noise hence the Flo Pro muffler. The only time it makes anymore noise is under WOT and it's something most wouldn't even notice.... If you are towing at WOT constantly you are beyond the limits of what the truck should be attached too.

Tuning is a huge improvement on the LQ4 trucks moreso than any other Gen 3. For a hack learning the stock LQ9 tune on a LQ4 is an okay starting point. Even a 5.3 1/2 ton has a much better tune set.... No power enrichment delay, more timing, etc.

Please don't use a Flowmaster anything. You don't need to restrict the exhaust flow on these trucks to make low end power.

Flowmaster makes a good merge. I wouldn't ever (again) buy one of their drone inducing bottle neck mufflers though. My stock Nbs box with a 4" aluminum intake tube growled from very low rpm/mid throttle. Guess the nnbs box is different. Cant hear it with one of my recent exhausts though.

I ran the stock box with the MIT tube for a long time before switching. Also silent....... Must be whatever you had with your 4" setup.... Unless you are ridiculously sensitive in hearing, but I know for a fact I am for annoying tones. If I didn't mention to anyone my truck didn't have the stock intake you wouldn't know it driving it.

Buddies Air raid is the same way as I have driven his truck multiple times.

The 09 2500HD I had was noticeably louder stock than any GMT800 I have ever driven.

The only noise mine has is a touch of drone at around 1500-1700 rpm and then tire/road noise. That's it!
