Default 6.0 turbo for towing

I have been toying with the idea of installing my turbo off of a 92 6.5 liter on a 6.0 2500hd. This project is just to help with towing. I have been looking around different forums and such and have seen very little on turbocharging with just towing in mind. Any thoughts?

Diesel turbo and gasoline turbo are not very compatible. Plus diesel is most always in boost towing. Gas not necessarily so. When I tow my 14' enclosed trailer on the interstate with cruise on it cycles in and out of boost too much for my taste. The turbo size, cam, and tune have a lot to do with that. It might be cheaper to trade the 2500hd in on a diesel model.

Supercharging would be much more suited for a gas tow rig.

I have a feeling that you would have a very difficult time makeing this turbo work on your 6.0 and create the power where you want it.

I am a huge fan of working with what you have but this project is going to cost a lot of money and probably not end in a result you are looking for.

A TVS 1900 would give a ton of low end instant throttle power. The turbo is going to make power higher in the rpm range. The tvs supercharger is near instant power.

I did try to look into where that unit would start to spool and start to restrict. And also try to recall how it responed in real world use. From all that i could find out it should start to come on around 2300 then start to restrict around 5500. Which for towing (8000-10000#) shouldn't that be about the right range. And using what stuff you have at hand and making it work is the challenge of these kind of projects.
Thanks for all the comments

Im guessing you would come out ahead money wise, and tuning wise if you just bought a kit from one of the sponsors like kb or trick. I would go turbo over supercharger but thats just me. Good luck

a tvs 1900 is no match for a properly sized turbo setup.

If you've got the turbo already try it. It's gonna be smaller then what guys around here run, but a turbo does NOT build boost because of RPM, it's a flow vs load thing. I guaranty that turbo going down the road at 65 will make boost at 2000 rpm buy just leaning into the throttle. Towing with a turbo is great!

Though I've never towed with a turbo, my 1900 made all the difference for me. On my 5.3 the supercharger gave me enough power to confidently tow 8000 lbs. Off the line, the acceleration is greatly improved and towing uphill is just as good. There's much less downshifting as well. If you're light on the pedal you won't even notice the blower but when you need it, it's there right now. I was, however, more worried about my transmission (I'm working on an 80e swap right now). I'd recommend supercharging for towing to anyone.

Having the parts off the 6.5 sitting in the shop is what started the whole idea. Having the extra power of the turbo under load IE. hills and over pass's etc. would make the 2500 we have a better stop gap. Is a 50-75 hp increase @5# a reasonable expetation? With the smaller turbo shouldn't it have good driveability? And then are the stock injectors able to handle the load or should I upgrade before I retune.
