The valve train shouldnt of change at all noise wise if properly adjusted

Ed,

Id have to argue some with that. The XR270HR cam has a far more agressive lobe that the stock cam. And the beehive springs are better than 50 more pounds of seat pressure over the stock springs. That combination warrants some noise. A "sewing machine" sound would be acceptabe, Duramax, not so much....

Hydraulic roller shouldnt make any more noise regardless of profile.

-XR270 cam
-Magnum roller tip rockers
-ARP adjustable studs
-Hi-Tech custom length push rods
-Comp bee-hives
-Comp lifters

It makes substancially more power no doubt. But with the tradeoff of the valve noise I would have stayed stock.

Im curious if yours sounds like mine? What valve spring PN did you use?

The only difference in mine and you are the magnum, arp push rods.

Mine was loud on the first start up even with lubing them a lot... but it got quite with in a min or so. Sorta reminded me of a 12v dodge at first... But then again every thing we have worked on has sounded bad no matter what lube or oil we use, or maybe im just paranoid.
I would have run comp push rods but they didnt sent the correct length, and the wall thickness was less than stock from the info i read.

Im having a major brain fart might have been the beer tonight, but what are ajustiable studs? There wasnt anything adjustiable on mine, i mean cam would only go to gether one way, and there was no adjustments on the valve train like a old car. If you still have you part numbers id double check them.. in the time ive been stock piling parts ive learned a lot of people thing the 7.4L 454 parts will work fine with the 8.1L

The valve covers are very tight on these motors..
Im sure your work is correct, but just a fraction to tall for the covers and it would sound like hell. .. i ran into that with the corvette... thought i was going to puke until i found the problem.. I went one size thicker on gaskets and fixed the problem. It always amazes me that the little things cause the problems...
Like today i got all the belts on, whipple says nothig at all about cutting or grinding down the head on the idler pully.... i guess they just figure its fine for the belt to run to the bolt.. granted they might have changed stuff. My blower says 8.1 /005 so im assuming that it was 5th one made... just like the directions say... check the eye glass for oil level.... yep not one of those on mine lol...

I made a parts run tonight, got 15 feet of hose for the intercooler, pump, resivor.... two new fittings, mounted the condenser, and the trick flow water box, then went and watches an awsome preschool christmass play lol...

im not sure if i will do anything thursday or firday... we are suppse to get a ice storm tonight and tomarrow... right now is 15* out side.... my lazy dogs will not even go to use the bath room. lol...

i just saw rays post, thanks for te info like usual all ways willing to help.. I would have loved to do all rylers stuff but from my stand point it was just more than i wanted to spend... i talked to ray and a few times and he was 150% honest with me.. My biggest problem was i already had the supercharger and some parts... I wanted to do his head and cam package but he said ( which i totally respect because i dont know any other shop that would tell you this) that with his head and cam setup a blower is not recomended with out doing piston for sure, and depending on boost i might need rods, So already being out the moeny for the blower i just couldnt see all the extra money to make it live.. Granted it would / should have been nasty with all his parts and supercharger! Just more money than i care to spend on a "beater" 01 suburban... if it was a show truck or something i could justify it but i still use it for work off road. maybe one day once some bills are paid off if i remember correctley ray said about 500 hp and 600lbtq if it would do that then ad the whipple in theory one could have 650-700hp and 1050-1100 lbtq!

I think a frind of mine might be running rays motors in a donzi... He didnt say who made them, just said he had 3 new big block gm motors with supercharger in his boat... i think he said, 2100hp? he texted me a photo of them... ill look back on the phone see if i still have it.

You have to buy adjustable studs for the 8.1, (metric thread on bottom for 8.1-7/16's on top for standard BBC locknuts or poly locks on top) I bought them for my set up. In theory if the base circle of the cam is the same and the lifters are identical then the pushrod length should be the same right? If you reused the rocker bolts and one of those other variables changed then you at least need to check pushrod length. since you used the roller tipped rockers arms like I am using then you shouldnt have to worry about the rocker arms hitting the bolts with additional lift (long slot) TIEROD mebbe can chime in.

Not sure about roller tip rockers. With full rollers I had to shortin the pushrods plus I had to run spacers to clear the pollylocks.

hum...

Any of you running hp tuners with a blower that wouldnt mind sending me a file?

Its all back together for the most part... tomarrow ill do the lights, winch hook up, and all the other little bs stuff and reinstall the grill...

It idels fine with no tuning yet besides adjusting from 30 to 60 lb injectors.. only problem now is that when it warms up it sounds like your old school muscle cars with blower surge. goes from 850ish to like 1400 then back... i know it can be tunned out i just didnt have the computer today....

sounds sorta like this lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG3CS7q041Y

well did some tuning today, it now idles fine, and doesnt die when you let off the gas.

Also got some fuel tuning done, its still a little rich for now.. 10.8-11.2 wide open. 14's crusing..

Next problem is im not getting the boost it should like. same problem whippled 496 had.. i have the small pully installed and its 5-6 psi when you hammer it but by 4000 rpms its down to 3. Im going to buy a new belt and see what happens...

First impression is its TORQUIEEEE... not much of a hp feeling but it puts you in the seat pretty well...

With a stock valvetrain and heads you will not see more than 6psi at WOT. With a cam and heads and long tubes i cant image you seeing more than 5psi.

Not a great engineering plan by whipple to stick the 2.3L compressor behind the 8.1L....should have been the 3.3L instead. It may be a blessing in disguise to the stock people though. I am sure I would have blown my truck up by now if I could have pully'ed down to 8 or 10 PSI.
