8.1L motor mount upgrade
#2
I have asked Prothane and Energy Suspension multiple times to produce some for us. I reckoned with one guy at E S. that they were making them for the duramax, they should make them for us. He said, there is no demand and its already past its product life...
Yeah, well, so is a chevelle, but............they make those.
Anyway, if we had enough demand we could likely get some made, but till then we are out of luck. Could we modify the duramax mounts? I thought they were the same actually, but I honestly don't know. Any help on that one appreciated?
Please let me know if you come up with something. I would like something better badly.

ok, So Eric called me back and said basically that he didn't know. He said he didn't think they were the same mount and didn't think he could help. Perhaps if we could get a group purchase together we could convince him to modify his Duramax mounts to fit our 8.1 applications. I know this would help alot of us out, but we'd have to see if he'd be up for it?

Sorry that didnt help.
What about running a bolt thru them?
Plenty of Dmax guys have done this with success.
I urge you to join duramaxdiesels.com and ask for help.
I know the members there can help you, wish i could get you the answer you need.

Tim,
No worries man. I appreciate the help as it is likely the closest thing we have had thus far to a fix. I'm going to check out the diesel forum you've suggested and see if anyone has more information on the bolt idea (size etc..)
Good luck Kerr, hope I didn't intrude/hijack your thread too badly. Just that this is something that should be made and I'm not sure why it isn't. So I like to take the bull by the proverbial horns so to speak.

sorry ive been slammed..
I went to lowes, got 6 inches of the biggest cut to length chain they have. then i got two new bolts and big washers. I put one end of the chain on the outside of the top of the motor mount. then ran the chain to the bottom bolt in the motor mount that goes into the frame. it works but not the best.. it was only 20* out side so when it warms up i do more and take pictuers..
