well i went out for a test pull before i purchased the TT, ended up getting a 31ft TT that weighs in at 6800lb (dryweight?), installed a weight dist. hitch on there, and my truck pulled it just fine, it did NOT have a hard time at all, you can definately feel its back there from take-off but didnt budge at all, maybe cause i had the tow haul button on? other than that it got up to speed pretty quick and cruised down the freeway pretty good as well, i really thought i was going to be pushing it but seems like these trucks like to do what they were built for...

I pull about 8,000lb and the bed of my pickup has 2 quads gas and water tanks, so I am pretty heavy... On the really steep hills it would drop down to 2nd and being doing 50 mph over the top. So I put a supercharger on it. Works great, hit the bottom at 70, go over the top at 70. averaged just 7 mpg though... But its better than the diesel smell and noise.

man i wish i could throw a radix on there but i would defiantely get into a diesel if im going to spend that kind of money, plus there is not mountains around here to really make the upgrade! .... i used it last weekend, i was doing 65-70mph on the way over there and managed 8mpg, and on the way back i kept it at 55-60mph and managed 10mpg... not bad...

go with the diesel man you wont regret it, this past weekend i went out to the lake pulling a 30 foot travel trailer with the quad in the box and it was probably 250 miles there pulling all that only burned little under half a tank of fuel

With a dmax when you hit a hill, it just loads the motor more, the turbo spools and you keep going, usually no downshift even pulling my windsail of a fifth wheel running 70. AP if it will help your decision, when I come down next we can hook my truck up to your trailer and you can take it for a spin. Im putting the stock tires back on anyway
Same for you too Matt.

damn cody dont tempt me... im already trying to convince the wife about it.... but i'll probably wait till next year, to me i need to use our TT more than 5x a year for it to be worth going to a diesel..... ive been looking around and have seen some pretty nice 06 dually's for a very decent price...
hey cody do the dually's give worst gas mileage than a truck like yours or are they about the same?

Duallys generally get .5mpg less with everything else equal. Also remember a dmax is going to get 4-6mpg better than a 6.0 whether towing or not. I get 10.5 running 70 towing my 31' fifth wheel on 35s. Not too bad I dont think, if I dropped down to stock tires and lowered the speed abit Im sure I could get closer to 12.5 and fifth wheels have a lot more sail area too.
It all depends on the price difference as to whether or not its a good decision to get the diesel. As far as maintenace costs is concerned there really isnt that much since you can go longer on an oil change with a diesel.
A dmax isnt necessary for you or Matt but it sure is nice

There is no question diesel pulls the best... but in my case I already had this gasser and I pull about 5 times a year.. It was doing OK, pulling over the Cascade Mountain range in Washington would put me in 2nd gear at 4,000 rpm, 50 mph. Now that I have 90K miles on it and paid off... My choices were:
1. buy a diesel = 5 years of payments $500 approx
2. run the **** out of it and hope it lasts
3. buy radix = 5k
Now I don't have to worry about 2nd gear at 4,000 rpm (50 mph).
In my case I already documented earlier in this thread. My MP112HH pulls great, not as good as a diesel. But I sure don't miss the smell and the 5 years of $500 payments.
