before some one says it, i know a diesel is better but im not going to get one, im sticking with what i have, i dont plan to make very long trips, pretty much just staying in texas.....
I have a 2017 Silverado 2500HD Duramax and tow a Wildwood 31kqbts which is actually 36.5 feet long and weighs more than 8,000 pounds with what we usually carry. It tows like a dream and accelerates on a 3% grade. I've gotten up to 14 MPG towing, and on a good road, it's easy to forget the trailer is back there. We've towed for several thousand miles, and I'm glad I went with the HD. With such a long trailer, I thought I'd at least have a minor sway problem, but that's not been the case.

I think you will be more than fine with the 2500HD gas.

I’ve pulled that weight with a 5.3 half ton several times. A 2500 should have zero issues.
