my buddy has a 05 dmax with an edge programmer on it and he was askin me if there were any issues with the trannys in them when he puts it on the max setting? he said it has a different feel to it on level 5 and the tranny has a hickup when down shifting on the highway. he uses it mostly on level 1 for fuel econ.

it would depend on which Edge unit he has. They have tunes to 120+ hp which would be rough on a stock trans. Any idea what power settings his has?

The allison has a weak link...the 4-5 shift usually breaks. The max power upgrade is about a 100hp tune before you need upgrades.

he has the juice with additude. not sure on the settings. he keeps it on econ all the time. I told him he needs to pull the trans and put in a transgo shift kit. he told me about a electronic device that would up the line pressures. I told him shift kit was the best way.

any info on the plug and play trans tuner?

Yup they don't like the 120 tune... If he likes the 120 tune start saving for a suncoast tranny...

No they arent worth the money because you would need a good converter too which is 1600ish, and the copilot is 1400ish, you can buy the suncoast kit for 3K and have a much better trans. Thats of course if he builds it himself but you can find shops who will do the removal, build and install for about 1400.

Alot of people are going with tuning with EFI rather then the co-pilot, does the same thing. If he is going to stay with just the edge a full transgo kit with a converter will do. If he pulls the trans he should just put and suncoast stage 3 in while its out..

Yeah, the tranny is not going to like level 5 on the edge for very long. If he locks it out of 5th it will live longer. The shift into 5th at WOT is what does the most damage. A transgo Jr is the best bet to help it and locking out 5th when he is racing. I have read many places that the ATS Co-Pilot really doesn't do much. Over time the Allison TCM relearns how to shift with the adjusted signal and is back to near stock. The Transgo Jr, actually changes the internals and helps.

Also, tell your friend to start the Edge on the lower levels and let the tranny learn for a few days on each level (driving normal). Bump it up a level aftera few days and keep going. Just throwing the level 5 at it is hard on the tranny.
