Default Blown gt5 rear! Need suggestions please!

Okay I have an 06 Silverado vmax. It has the gt5 14 bolt rear. The motors a n/a 408 stroker with a lvl 3 performabuilt transmission. I blew the spider gears out on the rear and mistakenly let a friend convince me to weld them back together mostly because there’s few options on good center sections. It worked for about 6 months but of course rode like crap while turning. Now the rear end is screaming while driving so I’m guessing the bearing are going out. I called jasper and for a new rear is around 1900 bucks. I fell like for that kind of money I could try and find a junkyard one and build it. I don’t know anything really about rear diffs. Would I be better off finding a junkyard one, getting a refurbished one from jasper or what other options do I have or company’s that Are around that could help me find what I’m lookin for. If I could do it over again I would’ve just replaced the spider gears but it’s too late for regrets now lol. Any suggestions would be really appreciated! Thank you for your time!

Oh and to add. A friend of mine has a low mile rear from an 04 Chevy 2500hd but it’s an 8 lug. I’m not sure what the ratio is in it but if it has 4:10s is it possible to change the axles you 6 lugs?

Have you called anywhere to see what installing a new rear diff with a locker like a eaton trutrac with a new bearing kit would cost?

Seems silly to replace the whole thing if all you have to do is rebuild yours. It should be under $600 if you bought the parts yourself, then it's just install labor if you can't do the work yourself.

Good luck finding an axn code 9.5" 14 bolt in a junkyard anywhere. Rebuild the diff in your truck with a carrier that isn't a gov lock and it will live forever. I have punished a 9.5" with Detroit locker in it for over 200000 miles now and it's fine lol.
