my 01 8.1 gmc sierra has a real bad exhaust leak where the manifold bolts to the head so i bought some new gaskets for it and when i went to change them i seen that i have a broken off bolt. So now my problem is that i cant find the bolts to replace my broken stud i was just goin to change them all while it was apart but now i cant find the studs can anyone help me?

 

They break off clean in the head have drill it out and retap it

 

I just had to do this on my 01 1500 what's the reason for them snapping off like that heat cycling or what?

 

my guess is its the corrotion caused my metal and aluminum contacting eachother..kinda acts like a rust and eats away at eachother. id highly recommend putting anti sieze on the new bolt you put back in. itll prevent this.

 

Does anyone know where i can get new bolts for my manifolds

 

Stage 8 makes locking header bolts for our engines. Just put some on my truck after tapping out a broken bolt and leaky header gaskets

 

oriellys has them but i would get stainless steal ones can get them at lowes or home depot for half the price of buying from a performance shop

 

If i get just a bolt instead of studs how am i suppose to mount my heat shields back

 

Put some long tube headers on it while your at it!

 

Cant afford them right now i just need to get it fixed
