Not entirely true. My dad's '07 8.1 makes the same mileage (usually better) than my 6.0. I have pulled down 15 mpg hwy in his truck several times, mine has never cracked 14.

Flat highway at 55mph will net me around 18mpg, 75-80mph on the highway will net me 14.5-15mpg. Not to shabby. The truck is an ECSB with 3.73s.
Thanks, thats what i was looking for. I dont think that milege is that bad at all. That's better than i'm getting with my 5.3. It does have 35's with 4.56's. With mpg as close are they are now between the 6.0 and duramax and the fact that diesel trucks are bring some high prices around here, I think the 6.0 with be enough for me right now.

Diesel is great till it breaks plan on trading it in a 99,999 .8 to avoid getting raped on repairs with a diesel purchase. Most of our company trucks average about 14-15 unloaded. Depending on the load you are pulling, ours manage about 10-12 pulling 12-15 K LBS. Our oldest is an 04 the newest is an 08 all are 4wd and 4:10 geared on stock 245 tires. We have found that any amount of fuel savings disappears the first time that diesel makes a trip to the shop. Not to mention with GM being in trouble you can expect them to find every way possible to weasel out of fixing a problem the high the mileage gets on it.

Kinda the same boat my wife and I are in. We've been wanting to get a new truck for the trailer. We pull an aluminum 3 or 4 horse/combo bumper pull trailer. Fully loaded with tack and 3 horses we load out about 7K pounds. Right now we are pulling the trailer with our 06 Silverado 1500 Z71, L33--5.3, 3.42 gears. Truck pulls the trailer fine, though the 3.42's take a little while to get up to speed, but the big issue is how bad the rear of the truck sags with the trailer on it with all three horses.

Have been debating getting a new 2500 HD with the 6.0 gasser, we don't pull often enough to justify the diesel. What gets me though is that I see 1/2 ton trucks all the time pulling trailers similar in size to what we have and loaded down, and not have the rear sag as bad as ours now. I wonder if its due to the softer 4x4 suspension or what??? I wouldn't be opposed to a NNBS vortec/trailer max package 1500 if it wouldn't sag the rear as bad as what we've got now.

You need a 3/4 for what you are wanting to do.^ Regardless of how they are advertised a half ton is just that a grocery getter and occasional hauler. My personal truck an 07 Vmax is a glorified half ton. I bought it for the 6.0 in a light nimble package. Our work truck feels better pulling loads thanks to the longer wheel base bigger brakes. The v-max stays unloaded about 95% of the time but when I need it, I really need it.

Maybe they are running these: http://www.monroe.com/products/maxair.asp

Or some kind of airbag setup?

6.0 will do fine. This one does, on a weekly basis, 110K miles, no issues.

Damn, what is that combo, 15-16,000+lbs?

BTW: To the OP. If your trying out new 6.0/6l90 combos you will notice that they feel like dogs compared to the old 6.0/4l80s. These trucks are tuned very conservatively and have tons of TM . They really wake up with a good tune. It's fun burning the tires through first and into second with a 6,200lbs truck that's pretty much stock.
