i am working on a new project as well.

we are putting a d-max in a 96 chevy tahoe,,2door,,4x4

donor truck = 02 gmc 1 ton 4x4

it seems that advice for my project is very hard to come by,,,been asking anybody and everybody in the diesel performance world.

i am not a gear head,,i just know what i want.
i want a 1000hp slightly lifted 4x4 racing machine

question----do i need to use the entire drive train(front and rear end)?
or do i just use the 96 tahoe drive train,,,,i ve been advised both ways,,,,
There is a guy over on dieselplace.com that has performed the swap. He took a 02 Yukon and an 02 1 ton and combined the pieces he wanted.
As far as using the 96 drivetrain...I would say no, the D-Max is going to snap that transmission and the axle.

If it was me doing the swap I would do a SAS at the same time, use the rear end from the donor truck and call it done. that way it can perform on and offroad without constantly waiting for that 1/2 ton drive train to snap

one thing to keep in mind when choosing drivetrain components is the gobs of torque a diesel makes. combine this with a heavy suburban and you need some beefy hardware. Usually for every 1 hp a diesel makes, it makes 2 ft/lbs. so if your gunnin for 1000 hp, be ready to support 2000 ft/lbs i dont see any 80e handling that.

For that matter it is going to take a plenty stout Allison to handle 2000 ft/lbs.

Thanks guys.

I called every one i know.

Dieselsuburban wants $35K for a swap.

I have also been looking for a rolled crew cab then just swap the bodies... But nothing has shown up.

I talked to preditor motor sports, they do D max swaps on H2's and H1's. He said they havent done a burban and are to covered up to try at the time. He gave me a number for a guy in AZ i think.. I called him and he said he would do the swap for $17K but i had to supply everthing.

So now im just looking at heads and cam... then probably a 74 mm turbo and blow it threw a D max intercooler..

There were a few guys on dieselplace doing these swaps. They may be some of the guys you have called already. Itis pretty cool, but a huge investment. If it is what you want, go for it. Me personally it seems like too much $$ to be worth it. I don't think the 4L80E would have a chance of holding up if you plan on modding at all. Just do an Allison from Suncoast and be done.

Hows the ZF-6 Manual trans hold up to high power Dmax? Im sure it would take an aftermarket clutch to put down any power but this may be an option instead of the allison for some as well.

I can only imagine what a 1/2 ton rcsb would be like with an Dmax and a 6 speed manual
