Default diesel performance questions?

well my dad finally broke down and bought a 2005 duramax 4dr. dually. he has been using a 1989 Ford F350 w/ a crappy 460 cu.in. engine that got at best 8mpg. however, i will give it that the truck on had 65,000miles on it, only problem that it had was the A/C going out.

anyways back to the question. what are some of the things i can do to it to up the HP/TQ a bit? i know that exhausts help out a lot but he definetly doesn't want it to be loud. i know that he isn't going to buy anything or agree to put it on. however, this is going to be a covert operation and i plan on buying the stuff and puting it on. so anyways what suggestions do yall have to be the best: INTAKE, EXHAUST (NOT LOUD), and computer chips. thanks for the help.....

About $400 and 5 mins can get him a Predator and 120hp. My 7500lb, 4x4 crew cab dually ran a 9.50 in the 1/8 mile with a Predator only. Great bang for the buck!

Predator, or the edge will get you a little more power for a little more money. INtake and exhaust are a good place to start as well.

The edge is my favorite, but I have never experienced the predator. The factory intake is not very restrictive, but a 4" exhaust would lower EGT's a bit. Don't forget your EGT guage!

Best bang for the buck would be the Predator. Not just a programmer, but also a scan tool that allows you to check balance rates and other goodies. Just my .02....

What are the main differences between the predator and the edge.

Personally, the Edge is overrated but a good box, none the less. The Predator let's you monitor engine vitals. Predator is a downloader, while the Edge is a harness box. Edge can switch on the fly, Predator can't.

i will stand by edge, ok so the other night we took out my roomates 6.0L with exhaust and an Superchips Turner, i wont say what he runs but its quick, and we brought out my buddys Duramax with and Edge box with Attitude. They ran 1/4 runs to times (on the street so nun of this realy took place cause theres no such thing as street racing)
first run was from a stop. the 6.o got out aobut 4-5 on him the duramx stoped spinning and pulled within 3 truck lenghts.
2nd run, from a 30mph roll, the 6.0 pulled out one for the first few seconds and the duramx pulled him in right up to the back of the front door, and almost started topending the 6.o

all the duramax has is the edge and exhaust. and it will probly with good traction hit a high 13 in the 1/4 at the track

i also have an edge box on my dodge, and i love it. it is well worth the money, i have a couple of hook up at a few diesel shops so let me know what your lookin for.
