Duramax Engine build
Whats up guys... forgot my password and finally remembered it
Bought a single cab 03 long bed Dmax here in AZ about 6 months ago, when I still had my twin turbo GMC, but couldn't pass up an offer on the GMC so I sent it down the road.
Slapped a S475 on the single cab and the engine lasted 2000 miles and blew both headgaskets. Darn
It's more of a race truck status as of current, but I still want to DD the truck if need be, and still roll on the 22's.
Pulled the motor out 2 months ago and doing a pretty healthy build. It will be built for 1k horse, but will be air limited around 850.
Ill post some pics of the initial turbo install and death of the engine, and teardown/assembly!!
Glad to be back here, the LS swap on my Colorado has been put on hold for now, but I still would like ot swap in a 6.0 in the truck someday
Mod list for the new engine will be;
Cut/delipped SoCal Diesel Lb7 pistons, 16.5CR,
Mahle rings
Carrillo rods
ARP main studs
ARP Headstuds
ARP injector hold down studs
ARP rocker assembly studs
Melling oil pump
Merchant Automotive Tig'd water pump
Full balance of rotating assembly
Stock flywheel/balancer
5mm Keyed crankshaft/reluctor wheel
5mm keyed camshaft
Brand new cylinder heads
new exhaust valves/guides
Hamilton 140# valve springs
DDP 38LPM injectors
Single 06 Dmax LBZ Cp3 until I can buy twin CP3's
Im sure I may be forgetting something, but there she is!

Day #1. Bought the truck form auction and brought her home and slappe don a set of 3" drop shackles. All stock with 133k on the clock. Retired hot shot truck in AZ to haul boats to dealers near the Havasu area.
Pulled the stock turbo off and slapped on the 22's I had form my GMC.
6.5" T4 pedestal
Ordered S475/83/1.10 from forced inductions and slapped it on
Also had a 5" metal intake made
Ran this way for 1700 miles and truck was tuned to ~450rwhp. turbo spooled awesome for how big it was, and it was a rocket, here's a short video I got the week before it blew.
Video is 450rwhp and 32psi boost

I was really happy until I did a few hard back to back 4wd launches and the truck idled a bit rough, thought I bent a rod, but popped the oil fill cap and found this...
Unhappy Dmax - YouTube
Had the transmission built a month prior, and bought a set of Carrillo rods, PPE diff cover and 1 gallon PPE coolant overflow tank
Started on the engine removal, I was hood up to engine out and on stand in 8 hours by myself
Remvoed the AC system and installed the new coolant bottle
3AM, my neighbors love me
Oh my... what do we have here??
Stock stuff, nothing bent??
The surface of the moon is upon me
Oops, I was wrong. Lets lean with it
Now, for the good stuff, Carrillo vs stock

Off to the machine shop in the racetruck
Heads getting valvejob, Hamilton 140# springs, and a shave.
SoCal Diesel pistons, 16.5:1, vs stock 17.5:1. No, that's not Plastidip
Mock up engine stand with spare block
Mock up turbo on spare block, damn turbo is in a different zipcode!
Reassembly of the shortblock
Fully balanced, ARP main and side studs Mahle clevite race bearings
Melling oil pump on the far left, the cam reluctor wheel was keyed with 5mm key stock tot he camshaft to prevent movement with the amount of 'twist this engine will make
5mm keyway on crankshaft, and the water pump impeller was welded on both ends of the shaft to prevent the impeller from spinning off of the shaft.

Got the shortblock back 2 weeks ago, and started reassembly of the longblock and rest of the engine, got the heads on and torqued to 130 ft lbs and had a beer.
SoCal Diesel glow plug deletes. Why do you ask? I live in AZ, 'nuff said
Rocker studs
Installed rocker assembly, bridges and common rails with the turbo housing
Custom stainless turbo drain and Y bridge for intake manifold, sneak peek of the color my engine is gunna be
And that's it for now, got held up waiting on my injectors coming back from testing, powdercoaters back up a few weeks, and still have to order a oil cooler that is on national backorder.
How the interior is gunna be when she is running
Updates to follow!!

Thanks! I recognize your user name
It definitely was. This turbo will support 1000hp, but it was on a stock engine with stock injectors, so it was a mild 450rwhp. My original plan was to push this engine to 650rwhp and run it till it popped, sadly, it never got any track times with a stock motor.
