I'm going to pick a 2003 2500HD 8.1 with allison tranny.
Its lifted 6 with 35's and 20 inch rims on it.
has dual exhaust straight piped.
Looking for suggestions on how to get better mileage out of.

Thats the wrong truck to try and get good milage out of...in every possible way...
but to answer your question...
-Cai
-LT headers
-Lower it/put it back to stock
-Get smaller/lighter rims & tires
-Convert to a 6l80e
-Change gears
-Use cruise control
-New plugs
If all that doesnt work you could swap in a Duramax......

Nothing you add to that 8.1 will net better gas mileage. They get the same mileage loaded or empty, bad all the time. Chevy big-blocks love gas! If you want any resemblance of economy, get a Duramax.

I like the truck because I kind of set myself to a price that I don't want to over spend, and considering its already coming with the lift and tires and all that jazz that I was gonna put on in time.
the guy is only asking 16,500. And that's the cheapest I'v seen and most duramax's that come lifted like that are asking 25,000 and up and it also only has 118,000 miles

mine on 33's ( suburban) is 8-9 in town, maybe 11 interstate.

Now brads truck on 33's get 12 in town, highway and towing... not sure how that works..

Id say gears.. I doubt it had been regeard ... most trucks came with the 373 on the stock tires... so if your truning 35's that going to make your gear set like 3:23 ratio or something.

Maybe we could get a group guy going on gears!
