Im considering buying a 2008 duramax diesel and was wondering if its possible to remove the shmut filter to get get better mpg and better air flow and if so how do you do it?

there are several ways to shut off the dpf codes and remove the dpf. Quadzilla Stealth II is the least expensive (about $375-$450 depending on where you buy it) and comes with 4 different power tunes. PPE makes nice stuff (about $599 for the street tunes) and can also shut off the dpf codes. EFI Live is nicer still if you want to do your own tuning or use multiple tunes from different libraries/vendors, but also the most expensive at $749.

will the ppe programmer void the warranty on the 08 durmax also how mutch money is the programmer and approsamently how many mpg dose it help get

If warranty is an issue don't even consider removing the dpf and tuning the truck.
