hydrostatic transmision
Has any one ever heard of some one putting a hydrostatic transmission on a diesel truck. A kid a school said he had a ford F250 that he paid a shop $17k to install a hydrostatic transmission on it. Conveniently he doesn't have the truck any more. Why would you ever do that. I wouldn't think you could get enough variable ratio to get the darned truck to be streetable. They have them in big articulating loaders, so I guess they can take the power/weight. I couldn't say "no you are wrong" because anything is possible.. but you'd have to attach a hydraulic pump to the crank some how and then find some way to control the rpms of the motor since the pedal would be attached to the transmission and not the engine. This sounds more like a monster garage story then what a 23yr old can pay for...

It is possible there are cars with a Hydro mechanical transmission. I doubt he would have done it. The biggest problem would be finding all the parts that are the right size to fit as a tractors are normally to big(unless you go small tractor) but are then limited in speed. and a Cars would be to small and would likely be unable to handle the power.
