Default Need help picking a truck. please teach me

I have been looing for atruck for awhile now. i was thinking of a diesel cuase i need to tow around 10k. and my 6.0L is maxed out.

i found a 2005 3500HD dually crew cab. LT( i think, it is loaded, leather and buckets seats and all)

it has 135,000K miles on it.

and the guy is asking 16,000 for it.

First is that a good deal?

second, is there anything i should look for. like do parts go bad around that so i know that i aint getting a **** truck?

third what are good options to do after i get it for better power and gas milage.

thanks
D

you want a duramax? Then lly and up / 04.5 and up. The older ones had to remove heads to change injectors.
Good info here on this site as well as the sites i posted below.

I'd go 06 up because quite a few of the 04.5 to 05 LLY's had problems with head gaskets and over heating. I actually know about 3 people personally that have had those problems. I do custom EFI-Live tuning for Duramax's so i know quite a few people than own them.

06 and up are the best. Just more expensive.

I like the duramax's but if I were buying a tow pig, I would buy a cummings... That in-line six will pull a house and last forever.

I foresee me getting flamed for this but the cummins is a work horse.

Actually, i agree that the cummins is a better work horse motor but dodge needs to learn how to build a transmission. BUT, that being said, once i put a DSP5 tune with a 5 position switch on a Duramax, it makes for a damn good pullin truck that with a turn of a switch makes for a damn fun truck with lots of *****! LOL. I put a dyno proven 460rwhp tune on an 07 nnbs crew cab 4wd with 35" tires on 20's and a 6inch lift kit, MBRP 4" down pipe back exhaust. It was otherwise stock except air filter tooken out. It ran a 14.01@98.4! That was done in 2wd, no 4x4 launching. Anyway, i guess we're not talking about racing it but i thought i'd throw that out there.
