A roots-screw style blower will be what your looking for.. Turbo's are great for it also, but you will need to build or size the turbo around your towing needs. A roots-screw, type blowe have the tq NOW..

I'd recommend a Magnacharger, keep the boost to around 6-7 psi, and run a conservative tune. Get yourself a boost/vacuum gauge so you can try to keep it in vacuum as much as possible for fuel economy. I'd also recommend upgrading your transmission cooler, and get a shift kit in that 4L80E. You'll like the results.

if you tow daily id just trade on a new diesel.
If not, do some motor work on the 6.0L with a supercharger... The 8.1L is a good motor but its not all that if you go to mod them.

A couple things to consider:
1: A 2003 6.0L is a Gen 3 "LS1-style" engine. An 8.1L is more like the old 454CID BBC. In other words, the swap may not be just an "unbolt the old, bolt in the new" job like replacing a 4.8 with a 6.0 is.
2: I have a Magnacharger on my 6.0 (used to be a 4.8) and the installation can easily be done in 1 day using ordinary garage tools.
3: I have had the Maggie for just shy of 7 years now, with a guesstimated 100K miles, and have had absolutely zero problems. I'm not sure too many turbo owners can say the same.
4; The 6.0 w/ Maggie will give you almost the same MPG as the 6.0 alone, as long as you stay out of boost. I understand the 8.1's are quite thirsty. With gas nearing $4/gal, this might be a consideration.
