Default what are some of ya'll running?

I have been considering buying a 2001ish d-max, and was wondering what programmer/chip works the best? Or is it just a matter of brand loyalty?

From what I have read they all put down about the same numbers. I guess it depends on if you want an adjustable on the fly like Edge or Banks or a hand held programer liks Superchips or PPE. There are plenty of options out there. Read some of the diesel forums and make up your mind.

We have a Hypertech demo vehicle at work that was donated by a vendor. That thing smokes like a ****. The Edge in my friends truck on level 5 doesnt smoke at all. Whats the deal with that?

smoke is unburnt fuel. Superchips is pretty good, have one on a 04 6.6L d-max, w/ no muffler it blows lots of black smoke. Use to have a 02 6.6 d-max and put a banks 6-gun and speed loader. In 2 wheel drive it burns tires through 3rd gear. Lock it in 4 hi and build boost it smoked all 4's

Hypertech pretty much owns that magazine.. Haven't you noticed how almost every ad is a Hypertech one? If you want a good towing chip, go with the Edge Juice, it will give you good mid-range power and low EGTs.
if you want some nasty low-end torque for racing or sped pulling, go with a BullyDog Power Pup. I'd stay away from Banks, they're R&D sucks now that they focus all their attention on their own race team..
For hand helds, I'd go with PPE, they offer the most power at a good price. All Hypertech and Superchips have going for them is the name, nothing real special about their products, except the ability to remove speed limiters..
