what to watch out for in a '01-'02 Duramax?
ol' blue (see sig) has started giving me a few problems here lately, and it's about time to sell her and find something new(er).
I REALLY like the look of the '01-'02 chevy 2500hd's. like a needle in a hay stack, I'd like to find a RCLB 4x4, duramax/allison combo.
I heard problems with melting the heads, and various other electrical problems have come about.
what's the truth? and what should I look out for in finding one used?

My 2002 has been flawless. The bugs were worked out.
The 01 trucks did have a few more problems than average.
The biggest thing to worry about on a used truck is the injectors. Make sure you get a VIN check to see the service history on any Duramax you are looking at buying used.

My 02 has over 112k miles and no problems on motor or original injectors. I keep thinking they only have so long left but so far so good. Fortunately the injectors are covered until 200k just in case.

The main problem with any Duramax 01-present is the injectors. there are two duramax versions, 8th vin # 1 & 2. 1 is the older style deisel and 2 is the new style. The vin 2 has only been out 2 to 3 years. Vin 1 has a bigger problem than vin 2 but I have seen a few of the new style getting replaced. Vin #2 is easier to replace. thats about the only real problems I know about.

The injector issues are mitigated by the extended warranty on the earlier models.
