Default 1980 4x4

Heres a lil something we been workin on.
1980 chevy rcsb 4x4

For all you out there scared of wiring. This is all we needed to have for it to run.

Fuse block on the left is hot all the time from the battery.
Fuse block on the right is energized by the relay beside it. When the key is on it powers the fuel pump and PCM. Very simple and cheap.

Removed all the wiring that wasnt needed and reloomed the harness.

When i get thru putting the switches and indicator lights on the dash ill get a pic of that also.

The engine was in his 99 transam but the crappy 4l60e puked its guta on the dyno gettin tuned.
Brought it home and was gonna rebuild the trans, tore it apart and there were more parts broken then not. So it went to the scrapyard. Pulled the engine and put it in the truck.
Its a 408ci, 11.5CR with LS3 heads and a baby cam. TH350 trans with a 2800-3000 stall. NP205 xcase. 3.07 gears and 33" BFG All terrains.
Waiting for the Th350 to die now so it can get a 4L80E.

Looks like a fun low-buck project. I had a TH350 in my 78 GMC, behind a mild 355. 3.73's and 38 inch TSL's, with locked axles front & rear, and NP205 t-case. I tried hard to kill that transmission, but mostly I just snapped axle shafts.

Dunno bout low budget, but its what he had so we gonna try it out for dirt drags and goofing off.
Its got a G80 in the rear and open in the front. Might end up goin with 3.73 or 3.42s. Depends on if he wants to drive it much. Tryin to get him to put nitrous on it if the transmission holds up.

Whoring a couple old pics out here, hope you don't mind. I'm old, and I'm reminiscing, and a little drunk.

Before:

During buildup:

After:

The truck had many phases, I think I owned it for 10-12 years. Maybe longer.

I built this truck the first time, before I had a garage. Everything that was wearable got replaced, including anything that had rubber. All bushings, mounts, hoses & lines, etc. Only the frame was re-used, and even it was repaired. It was nearly cracked in half behind the rear cab mounts. Not bad for a $200 truck I guess....

I ran with the Jeep clubs back then. They used to have the best trail-rides, organized and fun. Good people. I saw alot of new places in Alaska that most people will never see.

No, that one was early 80's, had the big square single sealed beams. I remember when there were 2 other trucks similar looking to mine rolling around the Valley, lol. I saw that ad on CL and had to do a double-take myself.

As far as I know, my old truck got parted out a couple years after I sold it. The winch was sold off of it during the first couple of months....
