1993 GMC xcab swb 350 to 5.3 swap.

Thanks, I made it a point to get that Y pipe after reading your K1500 5.3 swap. Right now I have a little delema cause I have a perfect open carrier 14bolt 6lug rear that'll fit right in this truck but on the other hand the rearend in this truck has the G80 so I havn't decided if I'm going to swap it now or wait till this rearend goes out. I bought this truck over a year ago with the blown up engine and was kinda down on it after I had gotten lied to about alot of things with the truck, I bought it from a used car dealership for $1200 at the time it supposidly had all the parts to put it back on the road, because it had a complete (supposidly running)(Lie no 1) tbi 350 sitting in the bed covered up that they had bought from a salvage yard. They told me the engine in the truck had a cracked block because it had frozen and busted (Lie no 2) it had a broken piston. I took the oil pan off the "replacement engine" only to find the center main had spun (that's where the 383 build started). They also told me that tranny had been rebuilt less than 5,000 miles before the engine went (Lie no 3). But here lately seems like my lucks really started to change when it comes to my truck, I found a guy on craigslist about 45 min's from where I live that buy's and sells junk cars and he just happened to have the 01 5.3/4l60e that I bought and told me when I bought to engine to get anything I wanted off of the truck cause it was going to scrap so I did I got way more stuff than I needed but I figured may as well get while I can cause I have friends with the year range truck. 2weeks later we went back to his house and parted out a 98 GMC K1500 for my buddy, he got the engine and the fella gave me pretty much anything I wanted off the truck bad mistake on his part cause I got all the wiring, complete dash, both complete doors with everything power, steering column, brand new towing package radiator, trans cooler, engine oil cooler, trim panels, complete a/c system, transmission, xfer case, driveshafts just anything I could think of that I possibly might need for my truck. Now I'm going buy me a rebuild kit for my transmission and new converter so then I install it into my truck I know it won't have to come back out.

Nah the 14bolt is an open diff I wish it had the G80 or there wouldn't be any hesitation about swapping and yes they both are 3.42:1 gears. I'm just glad my buddies shop is a 2 story so I have someplace to store all of our extra parts. Right now we have his shop full machining eqipment, race cars and parts. I'm also debating wether or not to cut up my cab and install a third door, I found several at my local u pullit for $40 for the entire cab section door included. I can't wait to get this thing far enough along to install my audio system I already have 4-JVC 5.25" dia speaker's, 1-10" memphis audio sub, 2-8" lanzer 800 watt subs Pioneer mp1300 head unit, 760 watt 4 channel amp and 300 watt 2 channel amp so it's gonna be loud when I finish.

Well I finally got a chance to get some work done to my truck today. I installed the factory 5.3 air intake and maf. I also installed the 98 a/c ducting, painted and installed the dash complete with the interior wiring. Now I have to go our U-pullit and pull a set of 96-99 pedals so I can install the 98 steering column.
Here's the dash before:
Here's the after: I still need to go back to Orielly's and pickup a couple more cans of duplicolor interior paint so I can finish the dash trim and other interior panels...
More to come as I get more done.....

It was a pretty big job (but well worth it in my opinion) but I changed everything the a/c box, wiring harness, steering column, dash and did all the painting you see in the pics. I still have the get the 98 brake pedal assy to finish the install. I'm updating all my wiring interior/engine controls up to the 98 then integrating the 01 5.3 engine control harness into the 98 so I can have all the 98 features fully functional with the exception of the airbags (it helps having acess to an entire 98 parts truck thats the same model as the one I'm building). I also decided over the weekend that I'm going to be installing a 3" body lift soon due to the fact my tires offset out 1" past my front fender and the front end needs to go up at least another inch to clear and it's already 1" higher than it was with the old cast iron/steel 5.7l and I'd have to install 2" blocks on the rear at least to level it out and then my Rancho shocks will be too short (I checked it out over the weekend)
