i believe on a stock 454ss timing should be set around 6-8 degrees, mine had the mods in my sig and i had mine set at 14-16 degrees

start with spark (coil) my buddies car was doing the same thing for awhile till it stopped starting, found a hole in the coil. Just saying. And then try fuel pressure. If it wasnt getting enough of either obviously it wouldnt start but with a coil having issues it'll run just like

I would reccomend that you go buy a gauge from jegs or a local speed shop and a fitting. The fitting will screw in line at your TBI and you connect the fuel line to the fitting. Make sure that you get a low pressure gauge for tbi.

You can check it too ways...like Dock mentioned or get a fitting that replaces the fuel filter for a moment and then start the truck...check the psi. You will not have a filter on the fuel during this so...least amount of time would be better so make sure your engine is warmed up already before doing this method.

To check compression, again, make sure your engine is warmed up. Get a compression testing tool...and one by one, you'll take out the spark plugs and insert the tool into the spark plug hole...have someone spin the engine over (pull the coil wire off the distributor and the fuel fuse to make sure the engine doesn't start) and watch the gauge and write down what it peaks to.
