If you want to run carb there is a couple ways you can do it. One using stock coil packs and sensors or a distributor and new front cover which requires a one off water pump.
The set up with the coil packs and sensors can use either msd control box or edelbrock. They have different timing curves you can choose from. And you can use stock accessories. The other option is the gm front timing cover which allows you to use a distributor and a mechanical fuel pump. But requires a special waterpump and accessories .that's the set up I used on my s10 easy setup easy to tune all I have on that is an alternator though due to manual steering

MSD makes a box (6LS) that will fire the coil packs by using the cam and crank sensors for timing. GMPP also sells their version. Intakes are available from Edelbrock and GMPP.
You can go with a distributer.....but why would you unless you had to for some race rules or something?

just pull out what you don't need... and start fresh with the 5.3? I'm running a Holley 750 HP Street and its big enough for my L92 head 6.0...just needed much bigger squirters in the carb...and a 50cc pump upgrade.

thanks! Its def. a work in progress. I recently cleared the passenger inner fender of its wiring. Still needs more wiring work to hide everything, the heater box will disappear when the vintage air goes in (not sure what I'm doing about compressor location tho), and the coil packs will get moved behind the heads someday...along with new valve covers...to look more like my avatar.

intake, carb, ignition box to fire coil packs unless you're going with a distributor then you need a special front cover, flexplate/flywheel and spacer if you use an older trans, decent 10-14 psi fuel pump w/reg down to 7psi, fuel filter or 2, and fuel line.
