Default Help me identify this wierd part on 1993 YUKON

a friend of mine just bought a 93 yukon. we found this wierd looking sensor type thing tucked away in the engine compartment on the passenger side by the battery. its got 2 black wires coming out of it. one wire is grounded to the firewall and the other wire is cut off about 12" back. what is this for? almost looks like some kind of temp sending unit but we dont see anywhere where it can mount up. any info would be appretiated, thanks

It looks like a magnetic Pick up style sensor Like a crank, Or cam or wheel speed sensor. I know its none of those but it looks like that style. I guess if there is no check engine light its not overly important.

This isn't one of those illusive 6.5 diesel 2 door yukons is it? I was looking up a charge air temp sensor on a 6.5 the other day and it listed a battery temp sensor as well. I'm curious.

its a gas 350ci engine. the part has been removed. looks like 1 wire went to a ground on the firewall and the other wire was routed to a keyed hot lead on the fuse box inside the cab. dont know what it was, but it wasnt stock and its gone now..

Not that it matters now, but just venturing a guess: Hood open magnetic sensor for aftermarket alarm?
