widening stock rims?

Default widening stock rims?
im bout to pick up a stock set of chevy 88-98 model rims and was wanting to have them widend to 8.5 or 9's, is it worth it price wise or would i be better of getting come cragar soft 8's?

im also considering doing the same for mine. haven't checked into pricing or anything so im curious also.
