Default 1st Time ever running at a truck, results and questions?

Just had an 1/8 mile track open recently 10 mins from my house. Went a watched a couple times, and they started running index classes so I figured I'd give it a shot. I ran 2 test passes to see what class to even enter into and came up with a 9.533, and a 9.780. I entered into the 9.5 class. Won the 1st race, and then the 2nd race I broke out with a 9.476.

My mods, that I know of
Genx 205 heads
220/224 560 lift 112 LSA cam
Long tubes with true duals back to flowmaster knock offs
Tuned for 93 that I know of
2800 stall
stock 3.73's

I have a SS traction control system wired in, and my throttle is DBW, so I'm not sure what all is done there. I thought there were all throttle cable up until 03.

One question is wht factory wheels are best to put a different drag radial tire on, because my 22's are not helping the situation.

Second question is what are you guys doing with the tailgate? Removing it, lowering it, or just leaving it up?

I'm a newb at this so don't bash to hard, it was a good time so I'm just looking for pointers for when I go back.

With those mods you should run a lot stronger. Both 60' and MPH are slow. I'd make sure the tune is right.

That's what everyone else was saying too, I was hopping it was the wheels. They are not light and it's the set of wheels I have. Guess I'll track down someone to check the tune.

Your wheels r not helping. Do run with your tow/haul on? U should if not. Also r u spinning outta the hole?

Hell yeah, it's not a common last name around here.

I was launching in drive, revving to about 1800 rpms. Didn't even think about using two haul mode. I guess that will shut down overdrive? What other benefits does that have? I spun pretty good on the 2nd pass only cause I still had water on the tires from the water pit. Stayed out of that the other 2 passes.

If I were you I would ditch the wheels, even putting some stock 16 or 17s out back with a better tire would drop your times alot. Go around the water if you want to run street tires, just turn them over a little, dont get them hot. Put it in third with tow haul on. My trucks always like leaving off idle better then stalling it up. Try that. If you run a drag radial with some smaller wheels, then you can go around the water, back up into it a little and spin them in first manually shifting to second, bring up to about 4k and then come out of it. I would still try leaving off idle though and see what it does. Every trucks acts so different, but that what I have tried anyways.

Thanks for the response. I'll be trying that the next time I go out. Hope to have some different wheels by then but not looking promising.

What are you guys doing with your tailgates? Off completely, or just down?
