In some tunes the tow/haul is set up diffrent for race. It will usually run the rpm up a lil higher and shift a lil more firm. As far as tail gate i leave mine on as i have a bed cover. Alot of guys take them off. It will shave some weight. And not have any drag. Some tracks frown on having them down unless u put a clamp on the passenger side hinge

I left my tailgate down at Texas Motorplex once and got the stink eye from one of the track guys. A couple of others just laughed and pointed at me. So I leave it up now to be socially acceptable there.
