Default 295/50/16 MT Radials or 28x10x16 Hoosier Slicks?

I have both a set of 295/50/16 MT Radials and a set of 28x10x16 Hoosier Slicks which I am currently running on stock silvy wheels. Which of these tires would you run on a 16x9.5" wheel for track use? Current suspension setup is Hotchkis 2/4 springs, Swaybars (front removed at track), QA1 single adjustables front and rear(relocated). Will also be running a 255/55/18 radial up front. I am hoping to reach the trucks potential of mid 1.5x short times.

My money would be on the Hoosiers! If you hook better on the radials, let me know... I need to buy some tires for the dec 11 event!

You want the slick for sure! Being a truck you need every advantage possible for traction and the slick is miles ahead in that department. I am sure you know but being a full slick they need a nice big burnout to heat them up properly and they will net you any 60 ft your truck can produce.

I was hoping to hear more opinions towards the radials. As it is now with the Hoosiers on the stock 7" wheels and the shocks in the stock locations, I have a very difficult time hooking up at my local track. I have to run the slicks at 12# to get them to somewhat stick out of the whole and then they are very unstable on the top end and this is just 1/8 mile. I know the radials should help the top end stability especially since I am running a radial up front. The radials should mph better as well, especially in the 1/4. :dunno:

Here are some comparison specs:
Tire ----- Diameter - TreadWidth - SectionWidth - Weight - Compound
Hoosier -- 28.0 -------- 10.0 ---------- 12.0 ------ 23 ------ C07
MT Rad -- 27.7 -------- 10.8 ---------- 12.1 ------ 33 ------ R2

I don't think you got enough rim for the tire.. 28x10x16 needs a 9 to 10'' wide rim.. Sounds like your having to drop the air pressure down so low to get a contact patch. Wider rim more air pressure, less dancing at high speeds.

That is exactly the reason for getting the 16x9.5 rims. I had a few people at the track tell me the same thing. If I do stay with the slicks, I am hoping I will be able to run more air in the tires thus resulting in a more stable top end.

Are you doing a big *** burnout to heat them. With a big burnout a slick should hook rather good on the street letalone a track with any prep done at all.
