Default drag racing my truck...

First of all guys, not new to drag racing, I have a few trophies, but those came to me with good old 3spd auto's, question being, in my silverado should i run in drive, 3rd, or? Im leaning torward 3rd, my truck has 3.73's, never ran a late model vehicle before, thanks guys

i always run in 3rd. with that gear, your truck shouldn't shift out of 3rd before you cross the traps. also it will help slow down the engine so you don't have to use your brakes as much.

is the tow button the same as 3rd? or is it geared differently? prolly a dumb question, but you know..lol

You don't want to use the tow mode. That holds the tranny in each gear longer so it doesn't lose momentum pulling a trailer.

i had my tow mode set up to shift harder and higher rpm

If your truck is stock or even with bolton's, I don't believe it will make a difference whether you race in 3rd or OD with tow haul on or off. I have always run in OD. You have to really be haulin *** for the truck to shift out of 3rd on its own, won't happen in the 1/4.

With stock programing the truck will not shift into OD at WOT, so 3rd or drive makes no difference. I would also not run in tow/haul. It does have more line pressure for the shifts, but it also shifts at lower rpm when WOT then out of tow/haul.

DRive FTW alot of people like to manually shift it but I feel the computer is set to shift exactly when it needs to so why do it manually.
