My ext cab 4.8 with 3.42s went 16.3 at full street weight plus my all my crap for work in it, spare tire, tailgate, steel wheels. With a k&N, longtubes, and wheatley tune, lighter aluminum wheels and some weight reduction it was running consistent mid 14s. Best of 14.4 but mostly 14.5s and 14.6s. With the same mods on tahoe 20s(heavy), it went 15.1 at street weight with the 3.42s. I put in 3.73s and a locker and that helped out alot, but never went back to the track. The 4.8s love low gears, that along with a higher stall will get it moving.

GMC Sierra Run #1 (Bone Stock 4.8).wmv - YouTube
Here is my embarrassingly slow run. Gonna pull the 350 lbs or so off and run it again in a few weeks. Video may not be done uploading yet.

Hey guys new on here I got a question. I got a 2000 4.8 Silverado that I've had for a few months and I was thinking bout showing it some much needed love by putting boltons and 212/218 low lift cam, long tubes and exhaust, cai, pcm tune any ways long story short if I do all these mods to the 4.8 and then decide on swapping a 5.3 can I put everything from 4.8 to it oh yeah n if the 5.3 would run the same or better with the tuned 4.8 pcm also it is a daily driver.

Unless D.A. will get better you won't see a 16.5 any time soon probably. 100 lbs is aproximatly one tenth. That isn't 100 correct either so youe 350 lbs might drop you .3 if you are very lucky.
I think this in one of the threads I already explained this but unless you are boosting the only way to not waist your time is to pull that 4.8 and spend your first $1000 or possibly way less on a real engine. A fully modded 4.8 that can be driven on the street is still slow. Look around and see better explinations and more proof. A 6.0 has nearly 100 hp and a lot more torque stock, then every mod will make more power for the same money. $1000 is mods on your 4.8 might net you 30-50 hp.

This thread is awesome!!!
Oh and if you dont want to give up on the 4.8, spray it. spray alot!
We had 250 on my buddys 300,000 mile 4.8 and it ran my times at the short track. stock 4.8, tr6 plugs, homemade CAI, trailblazer converter, 3.42s, 26" Drag radial. It went 9.4? at the local 500' track.. and a 6.7 on the 250 shot. My truck ran a 12.5@110 when it did a 6.7 at the local track.
We never got to try a 300 shot, his noids wouldnt flow enough.
But that thing was swift on the spray. So a 4.8 isnt a waste to mod.. if you mod it right. With heads, cam, converter and gear, it could have gone 11s easy.
