Technically, if you can keep trans temps down you should get it to last a long while. I'd also recommend Dexron VI for it's better formula.

Or....you could be like me with some heavy modifications to the 60e and break it after only 32k and about 15 passes. Weight of the vehicle certainly affects tranny life, not to mention how well you hook.

I think its just luck, but having a good tranny cooler helps it out a whole lot, also people with real low drops seem to be the ones that go,out faster.... but my question is, why go to an 80e? Wont you think a well built 60e will handle good.enough?

There are no good transmission builders in my area. I am having more luck with my stock 60e than a lot of my friends with "built 65E"s

I know of a 04 SS awd that has gone 11.10@12x mph on stock tranny with transgo shift kit. I dont know how in the hell it holds up a lot cus it been many times in the low 11s and doesnt drive it easy on the street. I believe his mods were 408 tfs heads, big cam nitrous, big stall

My first 60e went out (burned the 3-4 clutches) because of a crap tuner (wait4me) who removed 100% of the tq mgmt (I requested 50%) and I only had CAI and muffler on the truck at the time. Rebuilt it under warranty at 58k, threw a vette servo in, and 40k cooler & hd2 shift kit when I put the blower on 10k ago, hasn't missed a beat at 114k now, shifts great. I have a Sonnax billet OD servo I have been meaning to put in, hopefully soon, to help the holding pressure of the 3-4 clutch pack.

This maybe true but dezert1500 runs a 6/9 drop and cuts a 1.6 sixty foot. I think it just comes down to luck of the draw on the 60s

I went 10.8x on a mostly stock 60E only 2,000 original miles on it. Mods were a transgo shift kit, new 3-4 clutch pack, servo, and a 3800rpm stall non-locking torque converter. I have an 80E now finally being built for the first time.

Me personally i would get a built 60e from one of the sponsors since we know they do a good job on them, i know for alot of people its hard to find a reputable tranny builder local, lucky for us in the houston area we have a few good.ones...
