How much does running in 4wd hurt ET?

I have always shifted out of 4WD as soon as I believe I'll have traction whenever that is. I've done it hundreds of times. Top of first or after the 1-2 shift if good traction. Did it on the '07 and the '14. I'm thinking maybe 1-2 tenths as I recall and that was 1/8 mi.
Also I've heard that some year models didn't actually let go of 4wd even after shifting out but mine have.

Yes it did and it would blow the tires off if I did it too early in the run

The manual shift and electronic **** tcases are the ones you don't want to do that with, not sure about the autotrac case. If you take it apart and look at it, when you switch from 2wd to 4wd you are sliding a piece along the shaft to engage a couple keys that hold it in place. If the whole thing is under a lot of torque you are asking to shear it when you try to shift it.
It depends on your power level, but a couple tenths is probably right.

Atomic you didn't have the autotrac case correct? I believe mine is an autotrac since it has "auto/2wd/4hi/4lo" or is that just the electronic?
Any thoughts on shifting into 2wd mid track with the autotrac? I could have sworn I read some posts back in the day where Parish said he would shift out of 4wd mid-pass. His truck was an 03 though so I believe he would have had the autotrac.

Shame on me because I always drove around in autotrac on the 07 and would hit it anytime lol. My bad I had $$ then though so didn't matter. If I had it in 2wd and hit it at 40-50 it would blow them off until 70 on a good traction street. If I was making a dedicated run I shifted manually. The 14 so far is much slower and it is manual. Also I never go 2wd to 4wd. Always 4wd to 2wd.
