What about just a plan old junkyard iron 6.0 with some L92 heads? That seems to be the ticket ala Skeet. Although you'd be adding 85lbs or so, I think the added torque will really help get you off the line.

getting off of the line is all about converter IMO.
5.3 with stock cam and tbss converter = 1.88 60'
LS1 with stock cam and tbss converter= 1.88 60'
LS1 with 226/226 and tbss converter = 1.88 60'
same setup going from 3.73 gears to 4.10 gears was 1.88 60'

I agree completely. I've had 6 different converters and the biggest one cut the best 60' easily. I went to the 1/8 the other day and i'm trapping 88mph with a 1.85 60'

dyno, dyno dyno, enough said, find out where your power comes in and where it peaks, this way you'll know what stall and gears to go with with all the haters about quik i can honestly say he knew what my truck needed and it proved itself. 3:73 to 4:10 is nothing i learned from it, if youre gonna do a gear change find out everything about your power band and make a change thats gonna make a difference once you find out the dyno info then you'll know which stall to go with
My setup makes a **** load more torque and throttle response from the bottom to the top with 1 7/8" headers and a 3" catless Y than the stock exhaust. I bet the former flows twice as much air as the latter.
ls6 to ported fast 90mm and pacesetter/single to the kooks headers with true duals. the 4.30 gears are in, and a 4300-4500 converter should finish it off. then i will work my way up to the 250 shot of nitrous.
