M13 Event in Stanton Michigan
Anyone on here going? The weather at the airport I passed on the way to work this morning was:
9 AM (13) Oct 03 39.0 (3.9) 37.0 (2.8) 30.02 (1016) Calm (DA should be-605)
8 AM (12) Oct 03 37.9 (3.3) 35.1 (1.7) 29.99 (1015) Calm
7 AM (11) Oct 03 39.0 (3.9) 36.0 (2.2) 29.97 (1014) NE 6
6 AM (10) Oct 03 37.9 (3.3) 36.0 (2.2) 29.95 (1014) N 3 mist
It looks like weather tomorrow at the track should be about the same. Should be good racing.

Well, back from the track. Rather disapointed. Fir thing that got me is the event timing. Test and tune was supposed to begin at 9:30 which is when the weather was actually still a bit cool. It was 32 degrees when I woke up this morning. By the time they actually let us start running it was around 60 degrees or more and 11:00. Temps ended up around 65 degrees or so. In this weather last year I ran a 14.48 on gas and 14.6 on E85. Later in the year in better weather I went 14.28 on gas. Well, today's results were ok if I consider the 14.48 pass. My passes were:
14.077@97.02 2.080 60' (1200rpm pre-load)
14.048@97.09 2.076 60' (off idle)
14.158@96.38 2.109 60' (2000rpm pre-load)
14.099@97.03 2.119 60' (off idle)
14.083@96.34 2.064 60' (1200rpm pre-load and borrowed a friends 305/35R20 Nitto NT555R Drag Radials)
I tried the tires just to see if a shorter tire helped. My Hankook's did not spin on any of the passes. I have a set of shorter tires of my own, but left them at home. Hopefully next time I go out in better weather the better air will get me the slight gain in torque I need to get the 60' times back into the 1.9's as happened last year. I'm also suspecting that the E85 might have also slowed me down a bit. Hitting the rev limiter also didn't help. Time to get that shift kit in. The trans shifts hard enough to not slip, but doesn't always make the shift as soon as commanded. I ran at full weight. Toneau cover, Bed Rug, tailgate, trailer hitch, etc. still in place. I think a much shorter tire or a 3000 stall is needed to get me into a consistant 1.8-1.9 60' time. I'm going back in better weather for a 13.8 and will get it before I add more mods damn it.

Thanks guys. I have no idea why in the hell we didn't get to start on time. It's not like they had to wait for the track to dry off, it didn't rain. I don't even own a helmet yet. I've always borrowed one when needed or just didn't wear it when I should have.

I'll make it into the 13's next time out. I plan to do a roll pan over the winter and some long tubes at least. That will get me further along.
