Default Need racing advice for newbie

Hi, Ive got a 01 ccsb 1500 HD w/6.0 . It will be my first time at the track next weekend. Im just going to crank up the hypertech and see if i can get some 16's lol .

Anyways, Im looking for pointers on drag racing my automatic.. how to do the fastest starts etc.. do i start in 1st and hold the brakes... what rpm do i bring it up to for best launch etc. First time so any advice will be great.

Thanks, Korey

i think that for you your best bet is to leave it in 2wd and keep the break on and rev to about 1500 rpm and boot the gas on green....

Play with it on the street to get your launch down. The least amount of tire spin will net your best et. Put your foot to the floor as the 3rd yelow light comes on. If you see the green light you're late. This won't help w/ et but it will help you beat the guy that's next to you.

Play around with it at the track to see what kind of launch gives you the best time because every truck is different. If you want to shake up the guy next to you, leave on the first yellow!

oh and i find it best to stall to about 1k (i spin at 1500-1800rpm) and then on the third yellow...just as soon as you THINK it's gonna pop, ROLL into the throttle, dont smash it... well i dont know listen to the chevy guys there i dont know what a stock 6.0 will do

I noticed in your sig you have got you intake side headlight out. Will this yield any gains with a stock air intake?

with stock intake no it wont help, that is there to help cooler air get to the open filter, if you remove headlight and fold in mirrors its good for .05 in the 1/4.
