Default Ran the 454 at Atco today

I put a 454 in my 1990 C1500 rcsb.Its a 95 motor with a stock bottom end and 396 oval port heads with a small cam,308 gears and stock converter.it ran like crap,first off it stumbled bad off the line 2.6 60' then it short shifted at 5000 from first to second.after that it started pulling like a train and all of a sudden at about 4800 in second it shut offlike it ran out of fuel so i coasted through.
When i got my slip it read 14.60@70 9.2@84 1/8 so the more i thought about it the better i felt and ill tell you why.First off 2.6 60' felt like i could have ran faster on foot then it short shifted and still ran 84 mph in the 1/8th so it makes power.The same setup in my 91 SS454 ran 12.0@109 with 3.73's and a 3000 stall @4400lbs this truck weighs about 3700 so i believe with it running right and a converter and gears it might run 11.50's.

with that mph in the 1/8 while stumbling around definitely shows that its capable of running very good once you sort it out!! keep us posted

Glad to see you got it out this year! keep that stock verter in there for the nitrous down the road. Just add gears..im sure youll get it running fast on motor first. Nice work henry.

The fuel system is stock with a regulator.Im going to add a fuel cell,holley blue pump Ive got and 1/2" line and that should solve my fuel problem.

I installed a 8 gallon fuel cell,a holley blue pump and 1/2" fuel line.just finished up but it was to late to test it out in the driveway.ill check it out tommarrow after work and hopefully run it this weekend.

not bad at all man. once sorted it will be a good running truck. when you say stock fuel setup you talking stock pump also?? sounds similar to what i was telling you with the other 454 ss. you coming down for the truck shootout in a couple weeks?

Yes it was the stock pump.i just ordered my stall today a 3200 10" and next will come the spool and gears.ill be at atco this sat. And yes to the truck race but might bring the Ford we'll see.All depends on how many bugs are left in the chevy.lol

Finally got my truck sorted out.new fuel system and a 3200 stall it feels great but ill know tommarrow at Atco.

Skipped all through first and second then i shifted high and a rocker came off about 1000' coasted through to a 12.73@104 with a 1.79 60' 8.0@84 1/8th it blew my mind i thought the slip was going to say 14.0
