Default street/strip wheel and tire combo

Hey All,

I'm looking for some tire options for my stock Denali 17's that I will use at the track. I don't plan to use them much outside of that. The only drag radial I can find for the 17's are either way too wide for that wheel, or are only 27" tall, which would be too small I think. My goal is to trap about 115 MPH and cross in 3rd gear, I dont think the 27 would allow for that with 4.10 gears.

Who races on stock 17" wheels and what do you have for tires?

At this point I am leaning toward something like this:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

I would get the 275/60r17. A little wider than stock, about an inch and a half shorter, and only 32# according to a couple sites I've been on. Sounds like it would be a pretty light combo(not sure what the denali 17x7.5's weigh). That's also the tire that they use on the police Tahoes (in a slightly smaller 265/60r17), so I would think its a pretty good tire. Question is... will it be good for what I want it to do?

275/50R17 (28" Tall)

I have been thinking about these, I have seen a few ppl run them on stockers.

That still sounds a little short for me... a 28" slick might be too short to make 3rd gear hold through the traps, no? If it was a 55 it would be perfect.

Also, it sure aint cheap... I need 4 of em.

Those tires held good for me on the street but wore out by the time I got the tranny shift points tuned.

If I were going to have a track only wheel set I would not use those tires, I would try and find a Drag Radial, otherwise to me it won't make much sense.

I run stock 17 silvy wheels with 265/70/17 Bridgestone duehlers .
I spin the front but still cut 1.6s all day long .
